Today, the Internet is being used more and more in the academic world to facilitate learning, training and education. Online education is the fastest growing form of learning today, and its applications are spreading into even the most technical of fields. Even the basic college experience has been changed dramatically, favoring more elements of online education than ever before.

When I first went to college in 1997, email and other basic Internet functions were already gaining large-scale popularity, however, education was still limited to the traditional lecture, classroom discussion, and textbook formats. Within the four years it took me to graduate (okay, five years), I saw an enormous increase in the use of online elements in my own education. Virtually every class I took the last year I spent in attendance had a significant online portion to the class. Often times the online elements were optional, yet I always found them an extremely useful tool as a compliment to the lectures and textbooks.

Not only has online education changed the college experience significantly, it is also playing a large role in many other forms of training and education. Many certifications, licenses, and specialized training programs are using online elements to facilitate their education as well. For example, most nursing programs, graduate programs, medical schools, law schools, law enforcement academies, other government training programs, and even many vocational training programs have online portions to their curriculums.

There has also been a rise in ‘Online Universities’, accredited educational institutions that offer degrees and certifications solely by way of online education. People today can earn an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, a doctorate, even a degree in law or a registered nurse certification. Some of these programs, such as nursing, require a certain amount of physical attendance at a specified location to conduct training, but many of them are conducted entirely online.

The rising popularity of online education is not without its criticism and potential drawbacks. Many people argue that removing the live ‘face to face’ interaction of traditional education will impact they way we are able to socialize effectively. These critics suggest that the communication skills learned in discussion and lecture formats are part of the educational experience, and should not be overlooked. There is also some criticism about the ability to regulate online education, and fears about cheating to obtain degrees without earning them.

In spite of the drawbacks and criticism, online education continues to grow at a rapid pace, and will most certainly remain a strong part of educational and training programs of the future.

Finally, you are out of that dreaded, stale high school atmosphere and off to college. You snatched the diploma from the boss man’s hand with a smug look and said good riddance to that teenage prison forever. Now, the freedom of University life is just around the corner. You’ve sifted through the various colleges, found the perfect one, and met your dorm mate for fall. This is going to be a synch, right?

Well, as choice as college may sound when you’re in high school, it can be a reality check once you actually get going. It’s a whole new world out there. Unless your rich parents are footing the bill, the independence of campus life can cost you some serious bucks. While tuition and living expenses are no picnic, you don’t want to forget to include the high priced college text books.

I remember my first quarter at a 4 year University. After two years at a community college, I thought it would be a breeze transferring in. I had put in my time at the junior college to save money and prepare myself, but I really had no idea what expenses lied ahead. After signing up for my first fall quarter, I headed down to the campus bookstore to see what was needed. I figured I would probably spend around a hundred bucks at the most. I mean, I only have three classes.

After some awkward strolling through the confusing isles at the bookstore, I suddenly realized that I was purchasing much more than three books. In fact, the college text books just kept weighing down my basket. By the time I made it to the checkout, I must have had about a dozen college text books to pay for. Well, these intimidating learning aids ran me around 250 bucks. Yikes, that wasn’t part of my spending plan. Now I had to refigure some of my finances in order to make do.

Are you headed off to a University? If the answer is yes, don’t underestimate the costs of college text books. While they are certainly necessary for most classes, you don’t have to settle for one gut-wrenching price. If you jump online, you will notice that many college text books can be purchased at a cheaper cost. The key is to find out what college text books you will need for your next set of classes as early as possible.

Then you can surf the web and locate the best deals on all your college text books. Just because the campus bookstore charges outrageous prices, doesn’t mean you have to settle. The Internet will provide you with a vast spectrum of college text books for more reasonable price tags. College is already expensive; you don’t want to have to worry about the smaller things.

If you’re in school and you’ve managed to learn how to read, you probably have to deal with multiple choice tests. Though they’ve become a little scarcer in the very early and very late levels of education, and perhaps in some charter schools, multiple choice tests are stand-by assessment devices for most educators in America.

Why are they so popular?

Part of the reason has to do with the fact that multiple choice tests are extremely easy to create and extremely easy to grade. In a multiple choice test a teacher or professor can decide on a “right” answer (though reality may be a bit more arbitrary) and give students credit for choosing the right answer out of a group of four and not give any credit to students who choose the wrong answer. This form of assessment leaves no gray area, making the tests extremely easy to grade, even doing some of them automatically on specially designed computers. That way a large number of students can be assessed at once without creating an enormous workload for an educator.

Though other forms of assessment like essay exams may give educators a better idea of how well students understand and absorb the assigned material, they are much harder to grade. Unlike multiple choice tests, essay exams are almost all gray area, and though most educators know the difference between a terrible essay and a great essay, it’s tough to discern between two “good” essays. Though few teachers would like to admit it, grading essay exams is largely a subjective act, and different educators could vary considerably when grading the same essay.

Since multiple choice tests are so common, both in the classroom, in college entrance exams, and in graduate school entrance exams, it always helps to know how you can improve your score. When looking at some multiple choice questions the correct answer should (hopefully) jump out at you as being obviously the right choice. If this is the case, choose the answer that jumped out at you and go on.

If you’re only pretty sure you’ve seen the right answer right away, read the other options just in case you find a better one. If not, go with your gut reaction and move on. Don’t second guess yourself, as your brain will instinctively let you know if you’ve found the answer that fits. If you’re not sure of the answer, eliminate any choices that obviously aren’t correct. If you still don’t know which to choose among the remaining options, just guess and move on, coming back to the question later if you happen to have an epiphany along the way through the rest of the test.

It used to be that education by way of online learning—or what is called distance learning or distance education–was implemented as a supplement to the brick-and-mortar classroom (or conference room) teaching and learning methods and materials. But technology as it is—progressive and multi-beneficial–online high school and online college courses have become sometimes viable sources of learning…without the student having to ever step foot in a classroom.

Contemporary learners taking online college courses can benefit in a number of ways that they otherwise could not, having no way to get to school, for example, or having no desire to attend an institution of higher learning. They might have children, a home, and one or more jobs that keep them from physically enrolling in or attending classes at a campus that might be too far away.

These individuals can make use of online college courses that feature lectures, video, audio, email, IMs, instant messages, bulletin boards and chat rooms, and online study and research sources that all comprise the online college courses—rather than serve as supplements to them.

For the home-schooled, the advanced placement high school student, for instance, who is now into levels that reach online college courses levels, the benefits of choice, segregation, or integration are available to those who prefer a particular curriculum that is religiously oriented or carefully monitored.

And for anyone, online college courses are equal opportunity—anyone of any race, creed, color, religion, location, learning ability or disability, or mindset can find the materials, sources, and lessons he or she needs or wants…many times accredited and transferable.

In the same respect, before applying, signing up, and paying, the learner who seeks legitimate online college courses should do a little background checking…to protect him- or herself from the beguiling and conniving that does sometimes happen. Some offering online college courses and other online courses are not qualified to do so. Some are not “accredited”. That is, if you are looking to use the online learning experience as credited coursework (to transfer, to get a job, to get a degree), be sure that the online college is one which meets the standards set by the state’s, province’s, or country’s accreditation body, agency, or board. In the U.S., for instance, the Department of Education (the DOE) oversees and regulates American universities, though each state is responsible for its own higher learning authorization standards.

This can be an arduous task by itself: unscrupulous and greedy money mongers can be “licensed” to run a business (in this case, the business of running a degree mill, a fake college)–because every state has different ways of regulating standards, and because con artists and scammers claiming to be legitimate e-universities will link their pages to the real sites of DOE or of the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), so when you are looking for an online degree you might be tricked.

You might read the website’s claim of being accredited—or will infer from the official links or the way the text is worded, in lies, or implications, that the institution is accredited when it is not—will pay unreasonably high fees, will sign the necessary and official-looking documents, but then will be required to do very little “work” and will “graduate” online…with a bogus degree.

So if you are looking into online college courses, the best way to go is through a legitimate college. And even then, if you are unsure, look for the distance learning college accreditation info. Or ask directly about it. When the said distance learning institution names an accreditation agency—whether it is DOE or CHEA in the U.S., The British Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education in England, a named Private Colleges Accreditation Board in Canada, or any other Authoritative body—contact that named agency and check to see that the college is in fact accredited…NOT just licensed to do business.

It can be very confusing making an attempt to choose an establishment to complete a degree. You have to weigh up the good points and cons of each individual establishment before really taking a look at the courses if you choose to analyze the establishment or supplier first.

However,if you choose to look at online faculties as a consequence of personal circumstance or private preference then it can actually prove to be even more daunting because there are tons of online institutions out there to choose from! Many of those are bonafide online institutions with a powerful history behind them as well as a range of courses that will only be described as electrifying.

There is major demand now for online education and coaching, and it’s small wonder considering the amount of people that online education opens up the field for now. However, it can be worrying to look at all the faculty options and wonder which ones are bonafide and which ones are not.

It is not as easy to distinguish between the 2 unless you analyze their histories. However, there are certain schools that you can depend on to be bonafide and worth the money that you would pay them to enable you to complete your chosen qualification. 6 of them are listed below to offer you a head start in the study stakes:

American Intercontinental School Online – AIU has a reputation for being a fast track college in that it allows students to complete a degree as quickly or as slowly as he or she would want would need to. The courses are really complete and can really give you a great amount of knowledge in a short time. This is ideal for you if you’d like to get your career active as soon as possible. The education content programs here are wonderful, as are the business ones.

University of Phoenix – The College of Phoenix is maybe the most well-liked online faculty out there now. It specializes in tailoring programs to suit the individual wants and wants of its students. It also gives scholars a complete base to work from as far as a vocation is troubled.

Strayer College Online – Strayer is renowned for its suppleness as it was purposely set up to accommodate working people and folks who may not have as much time as any one else to complete an academic qualification. Classes are delivered over the Internet in realtime so any individual can take part as and when she likes. There is a terribly private feeling surrounding this particular university and that just adds to the appeal.

DeVry University Online – Aimed at graduates looking to take a postgraduate qualification, DeVry permits a degree of adaptability too because the bulk of scholars will in truth be working as well as finishing the program offered. It is one of the most successful online universities out there because it is extraordinarily understanding and can actually help people get to grips with the course materials.

Capella School – Capella is targeted at both postgraduates and undergraduates and can specializes in the more effective of degrees such as technology, education and business. It is very flexible and renowned for its excellent communication with students.

The Art Institute Online – The name explains it all! The Art Institute offers a selection of programs at a range of level for the more creative individuals amongst us! Established professional and those needing to embark on a new career are welcome!

The six listed above are essentially only the tips of the iceberg. There are actually hundreds more to choose between with similarly good credentials. However, without reference to the university that you choose to enrol at, you must always make sure that they are who they are saying they are because the research you do will give you peace to to last you through the years!

If you want to know about how to get trained on a variety of career choices; just surf on the www and find associate degrees online programs. Associate degree programs help the student in choosing a specific career path and it helps the student in getting professionally trained in that specific field/career path that he/she has chosen. It can be referred to as career enhancement as well.

Conventional Career Choices Associate Degree Online Programs Cover

Since the founding of a variety of colleges in communities and the launching of associate degrees that lasted for two years, the number of choices available to students of community colleges for their careers has risen progressively.

Learning institutions that teach any kind of associate degree online program have needed to contend with the more conventional learning institutions. And so they have started having some of the more conventional courses.

To illustrate, a student enrolled in an associate degree online program can be studying for a job in a law or paralegal profession. Other more conventional programs allow the more traditional students to go into courses involving accounting and business administration. For some learners, the professional path they choose needs them to be familiar with the systems for criminal justice.

A student enrolled in an associate degree online program can pursue criminal justice. This deals with studying both crisis intervention and law enforcement. And it also aids the student in becoming more familiar with the courts.

There are plenty of good reasons for you to go back to school and earn a bachelor’s degree. But you resent having to do it for years. There are a lot of learning institutions these days providing online education. While some look legit, others sound too good to be true. Getting a fast Online college degree sure sounds tempting because it will save you plenty of time. However, there are a few points you might want to consider first.

Literally buying the degree

There are various institutions today that offer online degree programs. However, you must note that all of these institutions are not accredited and before applying in anyone of them, you must make sure that the institution in which you apply is accredited. Getting a degree online looks a really fast and easy method of earning a degree and people get tempted towards it and they don’t bother about conducting initial research about the institution in which they finally enroll for an online degree program.

How degree mills work

Degree mills are sometimes based on life experiences alone, or on a level of academic work far below what other institutions require from their enrollees. You can earn such degrees from other legit online learning institutions as well, by attending virtual classes and downloading your lesson modules. But getting a fast online college degree will require you no assignments.

The downside of getting a fast college degree

For most people, literally buying a degree online is simply wrong. A lot of employers will not hesitate to turn down applicants whose credentials were garnered from degree mills on the Internet. A diploma earned from degree mills is not likely to impress potential employers and may just be a complete waste of money. In some parts of the United States alone, it is considered illegal to apply for a job using an unearned college degree.

Some of the things you can do to ensure a fast online college degree program are genuine:

1. Assess the education programs offered by the school and the minimum requirements they seek from the enrollees. Usually these online education programs will require life experiences based on prior learning obtained, usually worth more than two years.

2. Perform a background check of the learning institution. Utilize the Internet to find out everything you can find out about the school — about their enrollees and their graduates. Read information about the school based on a third party assessment, and not merely from the institution’s site alone.

3. Find out about the faculty members; you want to learn only from apt instructors. See how many there are and if they are credible enough to teach.

4. Check out if the school has accreditation from several school commissions. And while you’re at it, you might want to make sure that they are recognized by potential employers, to prevent difficulties applying for a job.

A fast online college degree is really great as you can get it without attending classes like students do in case of traditional schooling methods. The most important point to remember here is to carefully search for an accredited online university or college that offers the online degree program in which you are interested. Always make sure that your time and money is really worth for what you are getting. You can find information about various schools and about their accreditation through internet; so find it and look for the program that is most relevant for you.

College is no longer sitting in a classroom for hours, listening to a teacher’s lectures, and getting graded for each test or quiz that the teacher throws at you. Today, we have the capability and technology to have a college classroom in our living room via the internet. The internet has created a whole new world for everyone including colleges and students. There are quite a few positive aspects of attending Online universities.

Online universities open a whole new line of education for smaller cities. Many smaller cities have only one or some have no colleges or universities. online college degree are the answers to their prayers. The students typically already know what degree plans they are interested in, because they know the career that they want to work for. However, until online colleges became popular, most had to chose from the degree plans that the local schools had to offer.

Today, you can choose from hundreds of degree plans when you look at online colleges, such as Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Marketing, Healthcare Management, Information Technology, Education and so many more. Once the small town student graduates, he or she has the knowledge to tackle a job that doesn’t require him or her to stay in the small town life.

Online universities are usually very convenient. Some online colleges or universities require that you attend tests at a specified location once every week or two, which is not very convenient. However, most of the schools offer tests and quizzes that are in the form of essay questions and you do not have to leave home to complete them. The teachers’ give you a syllabus that you have adhere to each quarter.

Basically, this syllabus lists your assignments and the due dates for each assignment. If you get the assignment turned in by the deadline, you get a grade based on your paper or essay. If you don’t turn a paper or essay in by the deadline, you get points taken off of your grade for a late paper or a zero for not turning one in. Finally, I have found a type of college that I can attend without leaving home, without pop quizzes, and I set my own schedule. This idea sounds too good to be true.

Many studies show that they average student pays $20,000 to $30,000 per year for college tuition at major universities. This number includes the price of tuition, books, and needed school supplies. Online universities cost anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 per degree plan for college tuition. Do you really want me to blow your mind? The college tuition estimate above for a regular college does not include room and board, automobile gas, or food. Online universities usually have the books included in the tuition price and you don’t have to worry about moving to a new city. Parents look out. Your kids may never leave home!

Many people worry that once they have to go out in the real world and get a job that their ability to further their education to get the degree they desire need is over. This is not at all the case, not with the ability for people to receive a distance learning higher education. Using a Distance Learning and Online Education does not have to be a difficult process. Instead, it is about being motivated to get the higher education that you want or need in a way that fits into your life.

Using a Distance Education

How does one go about getting a Distance Learning and Online Education? If you have a computer you can find an accredited program and get signed up in just a short amount of time. What one needs to do is go in search of the distance learning higher education program that suits them. For Example, if you want to get enough credits to go to next level in your education, you can choose the courses which fit the credit need as well as increase your knowledge in that field There are a lot of great programs to choose from, so you may need to spend some time comparing and contrasting different programs to see which is the best for you, your budget, and your goals.

Each program will do things a bit differently but all registration and orientation can usually be done online or through mailed documents. Some courses may require that you visit a campus periodically for testing. That means you may want to make sure that you apply with a Online Education Courses, that is in the area or will not be difficult to travel to should you need to get to the campus for testing or excursions of any nature. If you don’t want to have to travel to a campus or spend any time in a classroom, you should be sure that you get with an accredited program that will not require your physical presence.

The way you can use these programs to get your Distance Learning and Online Education is to build the instruction and education into your life. You’ll usually be given an outline for when things need to be completed by and as long as you make the education a part of your every day life you will be able to make it work. For some people, they have to get the work done for their distance learning higher education in the middle of the night, while others get their work done on their lunch breaks or before work in the morning.

To make distance learning higher education work for you, you need to be dedicated to making it work. If you do not have self motivation, you will find that a distance learning higher education is hard to get. You need to be able to motivate yourself, to stick to a plan, and to get things done even when someone is not looking over your shoulder reminding you to get it done. A syllabus will be given at the beginning of the Distance Learning Online College, and to make it work, you need to make that syllabus a part of your every day life so you can get the education that you need in the most efficient and convenient manner possible.

So, you want to go to a college and obtain an online degree? The good news is that there are many online colleges available on the internet that are all willing to help you do just that. However, there are a few things to keep in mind before choosing an online college and that is what this article is about to cover.

We have devised a list of seven questions to ask before choosing an online college. By following these tips, you will have the ability to choose the right college for you and begin working towards your goal of an online degree. Therefore, before you choose an online college, make sure you ask the following questions:

Is Your School Accredited? If so, who are you accredited under? – This is extremely important, you do not want to go to a school that is unaccredited. You will be doing nothing more than wasting your money, time, and effort. Most employers, if you have a degree from an unaccredited school, will completely ignore the degree.

How Many Credits are Required for your specific degree? – This is important to know so that you can plan accordingly. At the same time, if you have attended college – even a little, ask if these credits can be counted towards your degree and how they can apply. Find out ways that you could earn credits additionally, such as military training, work experience, life experience, and so on.

Is There Any Type of Financial Aid Offered? – If so, what type of programs, how and when you should apply? What is the criteria for the programs? – If financial aid is offered, most schools have a financial aid department.

How Much Will This Cost Me? – Find out the costs of tuition, software, books, out of state fees or additional tuition, library fees, technology fees, and so forth. What type of payment do they take for the tuition? Is there a payment plan? Any increases in tuition planned?

Do you offer any student services? – this could mean academic advisors, academic tutoring, or services for careers before or after earning a degree. You also want to find out how successful previous students have been in finding employment in their degree field.

Can I get More Information on Instructors? – This information should be readily available. This should mean your instructors credentials (professionally or academically), expertise field, experience in teaching or with distance learners, how their classes are designed, how many they teach, and how they respond to problems or questions.

How Long Has The School Been offering online degrees? – Find out about your degree, how long it has been offered, how long the school itself has been teaching online, how many students do they have, the percentage of those completing and graduating from the online courses, and other relevant information.

It is important, before choosing an online college, to get to know as much information as you can about any of them that may appeal to you. By doing this, you can choose a school that will benefit you and your career the most.

Ivy League courses are evolving. Keep checking around and looking at blogs and the school’s web site for more information. They may go full swing into the distance learning mode in the near future.

For instance, Yale has announced that beginning in the 2007-08 academic year, they will offer digital video of taped lectures for free online. Again, these are not meant to be used towards a full degree, but you can get the benefit of the class experience.

In keeping with that trend, Harvard has made the same videotaped lectures available online for graduate and undergraduate credit. Not a full degree but a real nice experience nevertheless if you really WANT to try an Ivy League school.

The presidents of both schools have made statements about marrying information technology with education in a distance learning environment.

The long and short of it is that the application requirements will be the same as if you were applying in person, you really will need to have a great portion of your tuition on hand to attend the courses that are there online. Even then, I must emphasize, you will not have the option of taking a full degree online at an Ivy League institution: just the experience of hearing the material.

If you have ever wanted to know what it is like to attend an Ivy League school like Yale, Harvard or Boston College, you may get that chance sometime soon. These learning institutions are coming around to the “distance learning” mindset of today’s student body. So here are a few things to know about taking online courses at Ivy League schools.

Yale was the first one to venture into the distance learning arena a couple of years ago. Harvard has followed suit progressively. But there is a twist you need to understand before trying to apply for these courses.

Ivy League colleges have taken the step towards online education, howbeit carefully. You are able to get the benefit of a partial education. However, as of this date, there are NO completely online courses available at these institutions.

What you can get from Harvard or Yale or any Ivy League institution is access to videotaped lectures and even class materials. The catch is that what you learn is not transferable to a degree program. Some schools have added online coursework for undergraduate and graduate credits. This is not a full degree program and probably won’t be for some time, so taking a Harvard online course or a Yale online course is not completely what it sounds like.

You can apply as you normally would for any higher education school. If you are serious about taking an Ivy League online course, tuition will be the biggest block. Some schools have payment programs and accept Pell grants and other financial aids. But there is always a portion that you pay out of pocket. For the most part, if you don’t have the FULL payment out front, you will not be granted access to Ivy League courses.

This is part two in our series on applying to take a course at a Chrsistian College. Of course, much of this is true as well if you are looking at doing an entire degree program. So, whether just one course an entire degree, this is some information you can use.

My personal background, so that you know, is that I am graduate of a B.A. and an M.A. from a Christian College. I also taught for six years at a Chrisitan university in the Dallas, Texas area. So, here are a couple more things you will want to consider when looking at your application to apply to take a course at a Christian college.Â

When you start to fill out your application here are some tips that will help you stand out from other applicants.

• Letters of Reference – You may want to consider including with your application letters of reference. Some of the most effective letters come from pastors, church elders or deacons, or perhaps the choir director (if the case warrants it). Having others that confirm and testify to your Christian beliefs can go a long way to help you get accepted.

• Statement of Faith – One item that you will find that many Christian online colleges will require that their secular counterparts will not ask for is a statement of faith. You should have a brief (usually one typed page is adequate) summary of your testimony and what your faith means to you. Keep it simple and genuine as over indulgent testimony just sound corny and insincere.

In a few days or so (as soon as I can get a good list together) I am going to post several Christian colleges and univerisities you may want to check out that have online course offerings, or entire degree programs. It certainly won’t be an exhaustive list, so right now I am looking at a way to narrow the focus in building the list.

Part 1 – Before you apply

Part 2 – Your application

Part 3 – Some specific Christian colleges

If you are a Christian and you have already determined that the best way for you to get a college education is by attending college online then you may be looking for some tips for getting started. Christian online colleges offer the same types of education those other colleges online may offer the biggest difference will be that they actually have the same belief system that you have and incorporate God and Jesus into their curriculum.

There are several factors that you should consider as you begin to narrow down your choose of schools to attend. The application process for any school can be long and tedious when you are filling them out so have all the necessities together before you get started. Here are a few tips to help you with choosing an online college that will meet all your needs.

• Accreditation -The first thing that you need to do is check to make sure that the college you are looking at is fully accredited. It is unfortunately but oftentimes you can run into schools that are not properly accredited and then when you are ready to either transfer to another school or present your diploma you find out that the credits you have earned are non-transferable or not recognized as legitimate credits.

One of the things about some Christian colleges is they are not accredited by one of the nationally recognized, regional acrediting bodies. Make sure it is. You don’t want to waste any time or money on a course that won’t transfer or count for work credit.

• Requiring Help -Another very important thing that you will need to check is if you have problems understand the curriculum or need to reach the professor for any other reason how do you do it. With an online course your professor could have hundreds of students and may be hard to reach so you need to find out what the college’s procedures are with regards to needing help.

• Financial Aid – If you are worried about the cost of getting an online degree you may be pleasantly surprised to find out that many online colleges offer financial aid. Check with them first and weigh out all your financial options, they may also be able to send you toward some Christian based scholarships that you may have been unaware of.

Part 2 is coming soon. We are going to discuss what to do after you apply and some of the things you need to know that might be different on a college application from a Christian collge.
